San Francisco projecting a Silicon Valley marvel
Last year my family and I were lucky enough to visit California. We started off our trip in San Francisco (SF). After setting my first step in the city I one thing was very obvious: Silicon Vally is close.
Unfortunately I wasn't the one that took this picture. I think I must have been so flabbergasted every time I saw one drive around that I forgot.... It was just so cool to see. Waymo offers the "Waymo One," a 24/7 autonomous ride-hailing service. You request the driverless taxi with the Waymo app. Back when I visited SF Waymo was "invite only" meaning not everyone (especially not tourists) could access its services. Now this has changed, everyone can experience a driverless ride, just download the app and order it!
Waymo's are all electric Jaguar I-PACE cars with the Waymo self driving tech built in. So they are great for the environment, helping to improve air quality in SF. Waymo's safety data shows large reductions in injury-related and police-reportable crashes compared to human drivers. Fewer crashes generally mean a reduction in traffic and the disposing of parts or even entire vehicles.
All in all, a great invention, being put to use in one of the coolest cities I have ever been. Now that Waymo's are open to the public, I’m aching to visit this city again and maybe take a ride over the Golden Gate Bridge. Hopefully I can be back soon!
Thank you so much for reading this small blog about a great experience. EcoNomad's first podcast has been recorded and is being edited as you read this! Keep an eye out..... and don't forget to have a great weekend!
